PEOPLE OF AFRICAN DESCENT IN GERMANY DURING NAZI RULE

Little is ever said about blacks and their lives in Germany during Nazi although quite a number of them died as a result of the tough and unbearable circumstances while others survived to tell the story......

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this. I had no idea. This is jarring. I'm completely blown away that someone Black actually tried to join the Nazi regime (Massaquoi), and that it's being reported in a sympathetic manner. I have no words.

  2. You're welcome Diasporique. Little is hardly ever said about blacks during the nazi regime yet their stories are just as worth telling as those of the jews or other groups who suffered the ills of this period.

  3. hey firstly I think your blog is cool and the name is even cooler. Sounds like you are on a whole other planet .... But I would like to have a contact email address for you because I represent a large group of people of African ancestry who also happen to be the largest group of vegans in the world out of Israel. I am a lecturer and would love to connect with my people in Germany and lets have a great cultural exchange and fire up the diaspora with higher African cultural consciousness and maybe just maybe we can give you better support on the planet Germany. :-)

  7. Guten Tag, sister from Germany. Ich heisse Tyrone aus Los Angeles, Kalifornien and ich habe den Gesicht von Massaquoi gehort. Seiner Gesicht war sehr interessant, nicht wahr?
My German is rusty so I'll say the rest auf Englisch:
Oprah Winfrey wanted to make a film documenting Massaquoi's desire to join the Nazis or was it the HJ?
You will never hear such stories about Africans who lived under the Nazis. D-Day has something to do with it.
Africans have been living in Deutschland since the turn of the century when the Germans got into the African colonizing game late. They grabbed what was left of the pie (Kamerun, Tanzania, Sued-West Afrika und Togoland).
However, Germany is a wonderful country. I have meet many Germans in my life. I know an editor (Redaktor) whose name is Martin Wolf, who works for Der Spiegel and a baker who lives in Hesse.
Anyway, I'm glad I found this blog. How long have you lived in Germany?
I hope to visit someday. The Germans have come to grips with their violent past and I hope we Americans can do the same. Be proud that you are German.
Lastly, I hope someone can make a film about Massaquoi. Tschuess, bis dann!

  8. Hi Tyrone,

gut dich am Bord zu haben.....

Yeah, I also find Massaquoi's story very interesting on one hand and on the other hand very inspirational since he ended up as a high ranking Editor of the most prominent african-american Ebony Magazine.

There is already a film on him but in German titled "Neger Neger Schornsteinfeger" based on his autobiographie. I'm not sure if there is an english translation yet...

Well your German should be okay to see through the film...:-)

Let me know what you think after watching the film: asisteringermany@gmail.com

    Bis dann und mach's gut...
