Just a smile, it breaks barriers
Like make-up, wear it often
Like a mask, disguise with it
A smile is most often reciprocal
It is infectious
On a first thought, wins you a friend
A smile can be brighter than the sun
A gesture that speaks volume without a sound

This poem was donated by the author early this year to Bahnhof Mission Berlin Zool. Garten, a charity which looks after the homeless.

Samson Onoja Itodo was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria and lives in Berlin. He is the mastermind behind Afrobizgermany.

KUDECA Deutschland ist zu Recht ein Regenschirm wie das Wort "Ekumba" (scroll down to read the english version)

Kumba Development and Cultural Association (KUDECA)  zieht die Bemühungen der Söhne und Töchter aus Kumba gemeinsam auf eine spürbare Veränderung sowohl in Deutschland als auch zu Hause. Kumba ist eine Stadt mit einer Bevölkerung von etwa 200.000 Einwohnern in der Süd-West-Region von Kamerun, Westafrika.

Die Geschichte besagt, dass Kumba um 1938 von einem Jäger, Midiki Ukeh, gegründet wurde, als er und seine Jagdfreunde in den nördlichen Ufer vom Likwi sesshaft wurde . Später nannten sie ihre neu gewonnene Heimat "Ekumba", die " Regenschirmbaum" bedeutet. KUDECA hat sich wirklich symbolisch als einen "ekumba" in dieser Stadt bewiesen. Kumba ist durch Handel und Gewerbe geprägt und könnte als die wirtschaftliche Hauptstadt der südwestlichen Region genannt werden. Auf der anderen Seite sind viele der Einwohner Bauern.

Stellen Sie sich nun, das Leben eines körperlich behinderten Menschen und die der unterprivilegierten Kindern inmitten dieser immer florierenden, hart umkämpften Extremen vor. Hier übte KUDECA seinen Einfluss in den letzten Jahren.

Unter der Leitung von Frau Elizabeth Yeboah hat KUDECA  das allgemeine Wohlbefinden und vor allem die Gesundheit dieser Gruppe von Menschen ihre Priorität gemacht. Frau Yeboah ist nicht nur Präsidentin des KUDECA sondern auch ein aktives Ratsmitglied der Grünen Partei in Ratingen seit 2009. Darüber hinaus betreibt sie Kampagnen, um über Sichelzellenanämie unter den Einwanderern in Deutschland aufzuklären. KUDECA startete offiziell seine Kampagne für eine bessere Gesundheit 2010 in Mülheim an der Ruhr.

Im August 2012 präsentierte Frau Yeboah, im Auftrag von KUDECA, eine Reihe von Rollstühlen und Rollatoren an behinderte Menschen in Kumba.  Spendenmaterial von KUDECA 

Persönlich hat die Geschichte eines Mädchens, das die Schule fallen lassen musste, weil sie nicht mehr von allein dorthin kam, Frau Yeboah berührt. Ein neuer Rollstuhl ermöglichte es ihr, wieder zur Schule zu gehen. Im Rahmen der Kampagne, betonte sie die Bedeutung eines behindertengerechten Zugangs zu Ämtern und Krankenhäusern.

In der Vergangenheit errichtete KUDECA ein Frieden und Einheit Denkmal in Kumba, welches Liebe, Zuneigung und Solidarität, das Wachstum und die Entwicklung der Stadt symbolisiert. Sonstige Spenden enthalten Bettwäsche für Krankenhausbetten.

KUDECA hat aktuell ein viel größeres Projekt: der Bau einer Kinderklinik mit der Hoffnung, Bedingungen wie auf dem Foto (links) zu verbessern.
 
Jede Unterstützung ist willkommen. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, organisieren sie eine Reihe von Benefiz-Veranstaltungen und Präsentationen.

KUDECA Germany an Umbrella as in "Ekumba"

Kumba Development and Cultural Association (KUDECA) pulls the efforts of the sons and daughters from Kumba together towards noticeable change both in Germany and back home.  Kumba is a city with a population of about 200,000 inhabitants in the southwest region of Cameroon, West Africa.

History holds that Kumba was founded around 1938 by a hunter, Midiki Ukeh, when he and his crew settled in the northern river banks at Likwi. They later named their newfound home "ekumba" which means "umbrella tree" . KUDECA over the years has truly symbolically become "ekumba" to this city. Kumba is marked by trade and commerce and could be termed the economic capital of the southwest region. On the other hand a large part of its inhabitants are farmers.

Now try to imagine the life of a physically challenged individual and those of underprivileged children amidst these ever thriving, highly competitive extremes. This is where KUDECA made its impact in recent years.

Under the leadership of Mrs. Elizabeth Yeboah KUDECA has made the general well being and especially the health of this group of people its proirity. Mrs Yeboah is not only president of KUDECA but also an active board member of The Greens Party in Ratingen since 2009. In addition she runs campaigns which sensitize the population on sickle cell anemia amongst immigrants in Germany.

KUDECA officially launched its campaign for better health 2010 in Mülheim an der Ruhr. 

In August 2012  Mrs Yeboah presented a set of wheel chairs and walkers to physically challenged persons in Kumba on the behalf of KUDECA.

In her own words, the most touching story was that of a young girl who had dropped out of school because she couldn't find someone to carry her there everyday. Her new wheel chair enabled her to go back to school. Within the frame of the campaign she emphasized the importance of adapting accessibility to government offices and hospitals to the needs of the handicapped in Kumba.

In the past KUDECA erected a peace and unity monument

in Kumba  which symbolizes love, affection and solidarity to the growth and evolution of the city. Other donations included Bedsheets for hospital beds.

KUDECA is taking on a much bigger project. To build a children's clinic in Kumba and hopes in so doing to improve on conditions like that in the picture below. 

Every support is appreciated. To achieve this goal they organize a number of  fundraising events and presentations each year.

Girmachew Getnet - Der Künstler-"Hab zuerst Vertrauen in dich selbst, dann in deine Arbeit und du wirst Erfolg haben."

 Zuerst lernte ich dieses Bruders Arbeit, nachdem er ein Bild von seinem Buch (siehe Bild unten), welches auf der diesjährigen Frankfurter Buchmesse präsentiert wird, auf Facebook hochgeladen hatte. In meiner Forschung über ihn fand ich erstaunliche Information. Wir haben wirklich ein großer Schatz dieses Landes in Form von Menschen wie ihn.

Hier sind einige berühmte Zeilen von Girmachew:

Nun,  was ich mit der Hilfe der genialen Initiative "Creative Africa Network" herausgefunden habe:

Girmachew wurde in Äthiopien geboren und aufgewachsen. Nach Abschluss seines Studiums in Kunst und Design an der Universität Addis Abeba (in Jahr 2001) gründete er sein erstes Atelier in Addis Abeba / Habesha Art Studio / zusammen mit vier Freunden.
Girmachew hat Erfahrung sowohl in Gruppen-und Einzelausstellungen an diversen Projekten: Alliance Ethio-Francois, Goethe-Institut und Gebere Kristos Center, Internationale Community School, sowie Jugend-Projekte mit UNICEF  und Speak Africa! Zusätzlich zu regulärer Kunst in Äthiopien, Deutschland, Schweden, Tschechien, USA, Kenia ..,

 Er hat mit einer Reihe von Innenraumgestaltung- und Bühnenbildausstattung-Projekte einschließlich Heber Interational und traditionellen äthiopischen Restaurants sowie einige internationale Shows von Künstlern wie mit Zoma Contemporary Art Center.Girmachew wurde im August 2005 durch Johannes Gutenberg-Universität, Mainz (Deutschland) eingeladen, eine Ausstellung über Zeitgenössische Kunst und die traditionellen Wandmalereien aus Äthiopien zu organisieren. Im Jahr 2007 wurde er in die äthiopische Millenium Celebration im Grassi Museum, Leipzig (Deutschland) eingeladen, wo er  die Ausstellung mit einem experimentellen Kurzfilm " Free Space" organisierte.

Er hat auch einen Workshop für Kinder und Erwachsene in der gleichen Museum veranstaltet. Seine kurze Experimentarfilme wurden an verschiedenen Orten, einschließlich TV-Sender in Deutschland und mehreren Kurzfilmfestivals in Europa und Äthiopien gezeigt.
Girmachew lebt heute in Frankfurt, Deutschland und entwickelt seine Kreativität im eigenen Studio.

 

In diesem Jahr präsentierte er sein Buch "The Beat" auf der weltweit größten Buchmesse in Frankfurt. Es ist eine Kombination von Poesie von seiner Schwester, ein Lyriker, Kalkidan Getnet und Kunst durch Girmachew.

Für die Zukunft plant er, seine künstlerischen Arbeit und experimentelle Filme mit vielen Ländern, vor allem mit seiner Heimat Äthiopien zu teilen.

Girmachew Getnet - The Artist- "Have confidence in yourself first then in your work and you will succeed."

 I first learned of this brother's work when he put up a picture of his book (see picture below), which he will be show casing at this year's Frankfurt book fair, on Facebook. In my research on him I ran into truly amazing stuff. We truly have great treasure in this country in the form of people like him. 

Here are some famous lines from Girmachew :

Girmachew was born and raised in Ethiopia where he graduated from Addis Ababa University Fine Arts and Design School in 2001.

He founded his first art studio in Addis Ababa / Habesha Art Studio/ together with four friends after graduating from Addis Ababa University. 

Girmachew is experienced in both group and individual exhibitions at the Alliance Ethio-Francois, Goethe Institute and Gebere Kristos Center and the International Community School, as well as youth projects with UNICEF and Speak Afiica! In addition to regular arts endeavours in Ethiopia, Germany, Sweden, Czech, USA, Kenya ..,

He has collaborted with a number of interior design projects and drama set designs including Heber Interational and traditional Ethiopian restaurants and some international artist shows like multimedia ventures with Zoma Contemporary Art center.  

The artist Girmachew was invited in August 2005 by Johannes Gutenberg -University, Mainz (Germany) to organize the art exhibition / wall and canvas / that showed Contemporary art and traditional wall paintings from Ethiopia. In 2007 he was invited to the Ethiopian Millenium celebration by the Grassi Museum, Leipzig (Germany). There he organized the art exhibition with the experimental short film / Free Space.

He also did a workshop for children and adults at the same museum. His short experimental films have been screened at different places including TV channels in Germany and several short film festivals around Europe and Ethiopia.

Girmachew now lives in Frankfurt Germany and developes his creativity in his own studio. 

 

This year he presented his book "The Beat" at the world's biggest book fair in Frankfurt. It is a combination of poetry by his sister, a lyricist, Kalkidan Getnet and Art by Girmachew himself.

For the future he plans to share his artistic works and experimental films with many countries especially his motherland Ethiopia.

Theresa Tebebiere Atte Franz - a never stopping ENTREPRENEUR

Theresa is originally from Rivers State, Nigeria. About 25 years ago she came to study in Germany. After studying Linguistics (German and English language and literature) at the university of Potsdam, Theresa worked for an international company in Duesseldorf as an executive assistant. She quickly realized her desire to be her own boss and took chances putting her thoughts into action.
In 1997 she founded her first company Inter Translation GmbH. Seven years later her second company, African Translation Company GmbH,  with 100 freelancers and a branch in Rotkreuz, Switzerland. She offers among others translations and interpreting services in 30 African languages ​​mainly for government agencies, courts, embassies, international organizations and institutions. In her words, "The relationship between German offices and foreign residents is very difficult given the language, so it was important to create such a office to manage and facilitate this relationship." The company also supports African citizens in their everyday needs such as in official matters and courses ( e.g Registry Office, Foreign Office...). She also offers vocational training positions in office communications and foreign language correspondence.  "Currently I have two girls, one is from Ivory Coast, Vanessa and the other is from Togo, Fawou. I have had a total of 6 people that did their Training with Intertranslation, but this is the first time, I have people who originated from Africa. I am very proud of that."

Acquaintances and friends describe her as kind-hearted, generous, loving and inspiring. She is married and has two children.

Theresa believes very much that you can achieve anything if you want.

As an African and as a woman she has proven that we can achieve anything anywhere.

Theresa kommt ursprünglich aus Rivers State, Nigeria. Ungefähr vor 25 Jahren kam sie zum Studium nach Deutschland. Nach dem Studium in Germanistik und Anglistik an der Universität Potsdam arbeitete sie für ein internationales Unternehmen in Düsseldorf als Assistentin der Geschäftsführung. Sie erkannte schnell, ihren Wunsch, ihr eigener Chef zu sein und , dass sie nicht für jemanden arbeiten möchte. Ihr Glück nahm sie selbst in die Hand. Ihre gedanken hat sie in die Tat umgesetzt.

Im Jahr 1997 gründete sie ihre erste Firma Intertranslation GmbH. Sieben Jahre später ihr zweites Unternehmen, African Translation Company GmbH, mit 100 Freiberufler. Sie bietet unter anderem Übersetzungen und Dolmetscherdienste in 30 afrikanischen Sprachen vor allem für Behörden, Gerichte, Botschaften, internationale Organisationen und Institutionen.  In Ihrer Worten "Das Verhältnis zwischen den in Deutschland lebenden ausländischen Mitbürgen und den Behörden ist sehr schwierig angesichts der Sprache, deswegen war es wichtig so ein Dienstleitungsbüro auf die Beine zu bringen, um dieses Verhältnis zu vereinfachen."  Das Unternehmen unterstützt auch afrikanische Mitbürger bei deren alltäglichen Bedürfnissen wie zum Beispiel bei behördlichen Gängen ( Standesamt, Vaterschaftsanerkennung...)

Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt von Intertranslation liegt bei der Unterstützung und Begleitung von Geschäftsleuten, Regierungsmitgliedern und Mitgliedern von Nichtregierungsorganisation auf der Reise nach und durch Afrika. Hierbei hilft Intertranslation insbesondere bei Übersetzungen von afrikanischen Sprachen und Vermittlung zwischen den Kulturen.

"Derzeit habe ich zwei Mädchen, eine von der Elfenbeinküste, Vanessa und die andere ist aus Togo, Fawou. Ich habe insgesamt 6 Menschen, die ihre Ausbildung mit Intertranslation gemacht haben, aber dies ist das erste Mal, dass ich Leute mit afrikanischer Herkunft trainiere. Ich bin sehr stolz darauf. " 

Im vergangenen Jahr gründete sie ihr drittes Unternehmen CURLY CHOCOLATE - CELEBRATE YOUR CURLS. Das Unternehmen bietet Haarpflegeprodukte, Konsultationen und Informationen für lockiges / welliges Haar. www. curlychocolate.com. 

Bekannte und Freunde beschreiben sie als gutherzig, großzügig, liebevoll und inspirierend. Sie ist verheiratet und hat zwei Kindern.

Theresa glaubt sehr daran, dass man alles erreichen kann wenn man es möchtet.

Als eine Afrikanerin und eine Frau hat sie bewiesen, dass wir alles erreichen können.
