The 11th Göttingen International Ethnographic Film Festival kicks off today featuring documentary cinema from across the globe. The festival aims at promoting an international
co-operation in visual anthropology and documentary filmmaking; thus has a special emphasis on new
films, videos or interactive media dealing
with socio-cultural processes, especially those
coming from anthropology, sociology, folklore and neighbouring
disciplines.
On this years program is " The Nightmare of a believe " by Samuel Loe, a Cameroonian based in Germany. Samuel was born and
brought up in Cameroon where he discovered his passion for film making pretty early. After graduating from Centre éducativ de Bastos, Yaounde he moved to Germany to study film and media production. Samuel did a Bachelor's and Masters degree program in Film and Media Production at the Ostwestfalen-Lippe, University of Applied Sciences. As a student he worked on several projects, especially with the Cameroonian diaspora.

" The Nightmare of a believe " is based on a true life story, which tells his personal experiences with witchcraft in Cameroon. In his own words: My childhood nightmare. His life as a child was marked by
witchcraft believes and practices. After five years of studies as a
student of film production, he returned to Cameroon, this time not to
visit his family but to unveil the mysteries and secrets of witchcraft in the deep forest of Mbangui Chari in a attempt to understand this world of fear, darkness, anxieties,
sorrows, confusion, illusions, grief, wickedness, magic, doom; the
world of witchcraft!

It dawned on me reading this article that I could not recall seeing an African film,By Africans in Africa, Which i found strange as I listen to African Music and And Have found numerous brilliant African Writers. I think I will have to see what is out there to watch, America is not very foreign film friendly.
